“Make a Splash; READ!” and “Make Waves”

with Library Summer Reading Programs

The 2010 Summer Reading Programs begin the last day of school.  Sign up now at your local public library in Cowlitz and Wahkiakum counties and read for fun and prizes!  Castle Rock, Cathlamet, Kalama, Kelso, and Longview are all diving into the joy of reading with the “Make a Splash; READ!” program for children, and “Make Waves” for Teens.  Readers, pre-readers, and families are all encouraged to attend the events and sign up to win prizes by reading or being read to.   The events and the “Read for Fun & Prizes” program are both free for everyone.  No registration is required for any events.

The “big events” for “Make a Splash; READ!” kick off with Captain Bobella and the Beast, an audience participation play from Cwerks children’s theatre.  The performances will be on Monday, June 21 at 11:30 a.m. at Kelso, at 2 p.m. in Longview, and at 3:30 p.m. in Kalama.  There are more big events every week until the “Grand Finale Summer Reading Picnic” on Tuesday, July 27, from 6 - 8 p.m., and the library section of the Cowlitz County Kids Parade on Thursday, August 5 from 10 a.m. – noon.  Each library has other events each week as well.  See the schedule for details.

“Make Waves” is the program for students entering middle or high school in the fall of 2010.  Besides reading for fun and prizes, there will also be fun, free events for all teens.  The kick off event is a “Float Social” with root beer floats, an open mic for all teens, and prizes.  The location for teen programs will alternate between Longview and Kelso, with all programs on Tuesdays at 6 p.m.  For more details, please see the schedule!
